You know the Bible stories.  You know the Bible facts – 66 books, two testaments, two primary languages, four gospels, etc.  You likely have put portions of it to memory, but do you know the Bible’s purpose? A.W. Tozer helps us here.

The sacred page is not meant to be the end, but only the means toward the end, which is knowing God himself.

We know God through His Word.  We know God through His Son as He is revealed to us in God’s Word.  The importance is not that you know where to find Zephaniah or Titus in your Bible.  The importance is that you have found God in your Bible.  May God help us know Him as we read, study, and memorize His Word.

When you enter the room this morning, please prepare your heart to meet God.  Meditate on the words of the music you hear.  Read the Scripture seen on the screen or a text of your own choosing.  Pray for yourself, your church family, and those who lead our worship.  May the Lord be pleased with today’s worship.   

AUGUST SCRIPTURE MEMORY – Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEALS – We conclude our summer Wednesday night meals this Wednesday at 6pm.  Please sign up in the lobby to help us in planning.  Thank you to all those who hosted meals throughout the summer.  After the meal, we gather for prayer meeting, Student Impact, and Kid’s Club at 7pm.

ABOUNDING IN THANKSGIVING OFFERING – Our third AIT offering is Sunday, August 28.  The first $2500 will go toward the needs of Pastor Bittu Samuel, a national pastor in North India.  A gift of $2500 will provide nearly all the support for Pastor Bittu and his family for one year.  Pastor Bittu is the younger brother of our missionary in India, Henry John.  The remainder of our offering will go to supplement our general fund.  Our prayer is that everyone who calls FCBC his church will participate in this offering.

ONE WEEK AWAY – Our small groups begin the week of August 21.  We hope that every adult member and attendee will choose to take part in one of our six groups.  Space still remains in some groups.  See the hallway bulletin board for a complete listing of small group locations, meeting dates, and leaders.  Contact a pastor or a small group leader with questions or to join a small group.

PROMOTION SUNDAY – Our Sunday School promotion is scheduled for August 21 at 9:15am. All Sunday School classes will meet in the auditorium and will be dismissed from there.

SI AFTERGLOW TONIGHT – Teens, join us for an afterglow at the Nelson home following tonight’s service.  Parents can pick up their teen at the Nelson’s at 9:15pm or at church at 9:30pm.

SUNDAY SCHOOL STAFF PRAYER MEETING – In continuing with our theme of “Pray without Ceasing”, we will have a prayer meeting for all Sunday School staff on Saturday, August 27 at 8am.

STUDENT IMPACT ROAD RALLY – Teens, plan to join us for this exciting activity on Saturday, August 20 from 4-7pm.  This game will involve strategy, teamwork, and creativity…you won’t want to miss it.  Bring a friend!  Parents, we are in need of 3-4 drivers for this activity.  If you are willing to help out, please see Pastor Chris.
